Haven't written for a while. Been depressed.

Went to see Golden Compass yesterday. Very impressive and very well done. The wife and I even stopped at the bookstore afterwards and bought the book. I presume that all three books are being filmed. I can understand why some of my flist said their youngest children were scared during some of the film. A couple of the fight scenes were rather brutal.

I was very impressed Dakota Richards. Does anyone else think that if they were just starting to film the Harry Potter books that she would be Hermione? I really liked her attitude in the movie.

Nicole Kidman certainly is the best looking villainess I've seen in quite a while. And I can't help but wonder if Christopher Lee has more screen time in the future movies. He got star billing for what? Two lines and a minute of screen time?

Also saw Hitman, which I thought was one of the better action flicks I've seen recently. Of course, Olga Kurylenko's seduction scene cetainly made my day. Did anyone ever play the PC game? I remember it vaguely, but shooters have never been my game. I much prefer 4X's, like Civilization, and simulations, like SimCity and The Sims 2. Also city builders.

Saw 'Beowulf', in 3D no less, a couple weeks ago. The 3D process was certainly stunning. I hadn't seen a 3D movie in a theater since 'House of Wax' in the 50s, which scared the crap out of me at the time. I haven't read Beowulf since college so I can't comment on the accuracy of the story. I do remember Beowulf tearing Grendle's arm off though.

Going to the VA hospital this morning to be assessed for Agent Orange effects. I really don't recall ever being exposed to it, but they say anyone who was in country for more than a day during the war is entitled to an assessment. All sorts of nasty conditions have been traced to Agent Orange exposure, so I'm hoping for the best.

Not much else right now. Looking forward to 'I Am Legend' this coming weekend and 'Sweeney Todd' at Christmas. My oldest daughter will be home from France for Christmas, which is a treat.

Speaking of her, I finally entered the 21st century and had a video chat with her on Skype the other day. I really didn't think it would work but, wow, it's really cool. Thank goodness I finally got DSL, even though it seems to drop off line 50 times a day. I'm ready to tear Verizon a new asshole over it.

All for now.

I LOVED THE GOLDEN COMPASS. I saw it twice! And where have you been? I've missed you. You were my first friend on LJ.
