RAMBLINGS -- BIG CHANGE!

With the apparent advent of LJ-gate part deux, I've decided to make my journal friends only. I don't feel like screwing around with corporate assholes who are obviously under pressure from outside forces, probably our idiot President's neo-Fascist administration or the anti-Potter religious nuts.

Please note, I consider myself a rather religious person and mean no disrespect for anyone's religion or moral point of view. But, don't force it onto me! Alright? If you don't want to read porn, be it legal or 'questionable', then stop surfing LJ, you morons! Look for sites that agree with YOUR interests!

I had promised myself I wouldn't use LJ to vent my anger at what I see as a totally ass-backwards view of American traditions of late. But I must vent a little! The so-called 'patriots' of the current regime are nothing of the sort. They are narrow-minded, bigoted, intolerant, venal and anti-democratic, and I don't mean against the Democratic party but democracy as a concept.

Dubya, our feeble-minded CinC, made it plain with his 'You're either with us or with the terrorists' speech before the previous ass-licking, sycophantic Congress. Well, NEWS FLASH, Bozo, my being against US, i.e. YOU, makes me a more patriotic American than you'll ever be in your most hopeful dreams.

I volunteered for service in Vietnam while YOU skipped National Guard duty to drink. My daddy didn't have the money to set me up in oil business to acquire rich, unprincipled 'friends' who have used you to ripoff the American public to the tune of TRILLIONS of dollars.

And now, of course, you have your very own Vietnam to leave to whoever your successor happens to be. Your little ego-trip to oust a cartoon dictator has cost nearly 4000 US lives and thousands of Iraqis, most of whom are civilians being murdered by their countrymen. Yeah, there was a lot of civilian blood shed in the Vietnamese countryside, but not the wholesale slaughter by walking bomb religious fanatics and sectarian death squads.

I shudder to think what will happen after the next '9/11.' If the FEMA and Homeland Security (there's a laughable bunch) performance after Katrina is any indication, our own administation will kill more people than the terrorists ever will.

OK, enough!

I just had to get it off my chest! If YOU don't agree with ME, that's your right and privilege, I believe that 100 percent. While I was naive at the time, when I went in the service and to Nam I believed I was fighting for democratic principles. Nobody really 'gained' anything out of the Vietnam quagmire. Now, our troops are dying for OIL and corporate profits.

So, just comment and if you're over 18 I'll probably friend you once I've looked at your site and verified that you're an HP fan, or fanfic of any type fan.

Thank you. I really did want to avoid diatribes, but the recent revelations about FEMA's 'poison' trailers and the court dismissing Valerie Plame's suit really were the final straws.

And LJ's maunderings about 'child porn' didn't help matters.

*stretches and sighs* read that work of yours once more for show and tell, and now I have to work on the next chapter of my own series. almost done. just have a little bit more to do and then I can start my next pairing. still unsure as to whom it is going to be though. (though I like the trios of Neville/Pansy/Millicent and Malfada/Cho/Lee...)

does this mean I should be locking up my journal as well? if so, how does one go about doing that? I know that I haven't touched up on a lot of really forbidden territory stuff in my fandom work, but I can't say the same for what I have written in my own universe setting.

Everything of yours that I've read involves 'adults.' This is all perfectly legal. But, as an easy example, if Harry and Ginny have sex after the Quidditch game in HBP, that's technically child pornography as they are both under 18.

Of course, there are legitimate reasons for protecting children from exposure and involvement to pornography, which includes print, not just pictures. I always thought of 'kiddie' porn as pictures of very young children involved in sexual situations but apparently the definition is much broader than that.

I may have over reacted but I was simply in a bad mood that day and much like Howard Beale in "Network" I was '...mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!'

Many authors of HP smut have their journals as 'Friends Only.' It's an easy step to take to prevent too much access to questionable material but LJ, like any corporate entity, has legal responsibilities to not 'promote' illegal activities, in this case, host 'child' pornography.

I hope I haven't confused you too much. If you change to 'Friends only' all your current friends aren't affected.

I mean, how do I do up one of those "Friends Only - sign up here" posts and then close everything else off? I'd rather not have certain people spying upon some of my more questionable works though. And I know some of my friends are not all that "gay friendly" and I have some homo-erotic work sparcely placed around in there somewhere.

I'm not all that technically proficient in LJ. Under your profile settings should be a field dealing with 'Privacy'

I've added you as a friend. Are you going to post your story on LJ as well?

It's a bit of a tough decision... it's hard for me to want to continue with the story because it turned out I had guessed a few details before HBP came out and now anything I write is cliche.

I'm kicking around the idea of trying to adapt the 'whole' of the story planned and bringing it into line with canon and making it post-DH... but I'm not sure yet.
